UWOC Film Screening
Friday, October 8, 2011, 12:00-2:00PM
In collaboration with the Women’s Center we hosted a successful film screening and
discussion of the film, The Way Home, a documentary featuring the testimonials of
sixty-eight women women from diverse cultures around the world. The documentary
focused on racism, sexual discrimination and gender violence. This event , facilitated
by UWOC council members was attended primarily by undergraduate students.
2010-2011
University Women of Color 10th Anniversary Celebration
May 5, 2011, 3:00-5: University Research and Outreach/Engagement Progrom (UROC)
in North Minneapolis. At this community gathering, Dr. Josie Johnson delivered a
keynote address that emphasized the continuing need for UWOC’s presence at the University
of Minnesota. She also encouraged UWOC to renew our vision and commitment to advocating
for and behalf of women of color on campus. We also had a moving performance by
ShaCage from the Minnesota Spoken Word Association, and two emerging spoken work
artists from Voices Merging.
UWOC Happy Hour
Thursday January 20, 2011, 4:30-6:300PM, Campus Club
This event was yet another opportunity for women to meet each other in a relaxed
setting, and network with other women of color from the campus community. We had
good attendance which included staff and graduate students, and are looking forward
to hosting more “happy hour” events in the coming year

Please join us for our the kickoff to our 10th Anniversary year! This year’s
program will be centered around the theme of "A New Decade of Community Inspired
Leadership", and will include a panel discussion from leaders in our local communities.

10th Annual Fall Breakfast

Members of the UWOC Council selected, “A Decade of Community-Inspired Leadership”
for our annual theme. We also had a dynamic panel of three Twin Cities community
leaders including, Minnesota State Senator Mee Moua, Somali Activist and Minneapolis
Senior Policy Aide, Nimco Ahmed, and Peggy Flanagan, Native American Activist from
Wellstone.
